Little Pumpkin Baby Shower

When there's a crisp nip in the air, the mommy-to-be's thoughts go straight to the Little Pumpkin that she's carrying. When her due date is right smack in beautiful autumn, there's no better theme for a baby shower than the Little Pumpkin baby shower.

You could, of course, go with a pumpkin-shaped invitation but there are also many commercial invitations available that carry the pumpkin theme and colors on them.

Baby pumpkins are the obvious choice for decorations but don't limit yourself to natural ones. Find as many ceramic, plastic, foam, paper, or any other kind of pumpkin-shaped things that you can beg, borrow, or steal. Look for orange colored tablecloths and paper goods to decorate the tables. Since this is more of a harvest or autumn theme than Halloween, use a lot of natural decorations to perk up the room. Gourds, berries, sunflowers and mums, colored leaves, and vines can be used all around the room. Linen cloth napkins and tablecloths can be used, unironed, to add an organic feel to the tables.

Other natural materials you can make use of art pottery, baskets, and bricks to add height to table decorations or food platters. Literally anything you can find in your backyard can be used for decorations in a Little Pumpkin baby shower.

Natural colored, green, and orange paper ribbons and abaca twine can be used instead of cloth ribbons to add accents to all the decorations. A hollowed out pumpkin shell can be fitted with a vase and filled with orange roses, tiger lilies, eucalyptus berries, and curling branches for a different kind of table centerpiece. Surround this with a few baby pumpkins and some votive candles to make it all come together. For your buffet table, unusual fruits like figs, quince, and star fruit mixed with the more common oranges and tiny yellow-red lady apples combine with colored leaves on a cake stand or in a harvest cornucopia for a stunning arrangement.

Food is, of course, pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins. You can start off with a creamy pumpkin soup topped with crunchy pumpkin seeds; serve a hearty stew in a hollowed-out pumpkin, crusty pumpkin bread, cheese, and a pumpkin pie. You can also opt to serve several different kinds of pie in smaller sizes, too. Pumpkin cookies and pumpkin cheesecake are other options for you. A pumpkin cake would be beautiful. Imagine too, a sheet cake topped with a foam pumpkin with a baby doll sitting inside it, like an Anne Geddes photograph in 3D.

Old-fashioned games are appropriate for the Little Pumpkin baby shower, like bobbing for apples, doughnut eating contests, or “Pass the Hot Potato” using a baby pumpkin. A new-fangled pumpkin game would be pumpkin bowling, using a baby pumpkin for the bowling ball and candy-filled baby bottles for the pins.

There are many pumpkin-themed prizes and favors you can give away. There are candy mellow crème pumpkins, spice scented pumpkin-shaped candles, pumpkin and autumn leaf-shaped cookies, miniature pumpkin-shaped soaps, or even pumpkin colored miniature jars of honey.
